This photo shoot took place on a fine September afternoon on the roof of Mr. S Leather in San Francisco, CA. Modeling can be a bit of a sketchy experience from time to time. I’ve had some shady folks try to take nekkid photos before. Some people can be so slimy you feel that you need a clorox shower at the end of things. This was not the case for this shoot. I was able to work with Luke Degre my usual rigger and dear friend, the Sleek Images crew, Burst of Light, and some other friends. We made jokes, we flirted, and we took photos. It’s easy to forget that it’s work. Time really flies when you’re having fun. The bottom line is that everyone there had respect and consideration for everyone else. I felt comfortable running around without any clothes on even though I was out in broad daylight on a metropolitan roof.

It’s the model’s job to stand around and look pretty. That sounds easy. In reality, it’s the model’s job not to feel sad or hurt when a bunch of people are all trying to get her to look in their direction when they say to “suck it in,” or tell her to bend in a direction that isn’t very comfortable. It’s a model’s job to freeze when other people get to wear normal clothes. It’s a model’s job to offer up her image to the world which means politics and jobs with children can be out of the question. In many ways it also means that a model gives up a whole lot more. A model release gives up control of a photograph. Photos of me in this bondage can be used anywhere pretty much by those with a copy of the form with my signature on the dotted line. For some people, this can be devastating. You can’t try to get photos back from the internet. They take on a life of their own.
In my case, I think this is fun. It’s not my day job so it doesn’t get old, I get to work with people I like and trust, and I’m not afraid of where my image is going. I think these pictures possess incredible artistic merit. I’m a lifestyle player so as much as I might complain about shoes murdering my feet or trying to fold my body into strange positions I really love the challenge. I can say that I did work hard on the shoot and I can be proud. As far as what people might think about me, well, that’s why I do a lot of writing here. It gives me a chance to be more than just a picture. I’m really glad when I get to look at all of this and feel proud of my strength.
