Maggie Mayhem is both a sex positive activist and a sex educator. She began receiving formal training on sexuality, sexually transmitted infections, harm reduction, and substance use in 2003 and has continued accessing as many academic and medical resources possible to keep up to date with medically accurate information.
Her career took her from a volunteer with a 5 hour weekly commitment into a full time passion. She has coordinated a free and anonymous HIV testing program, produced sex positive events with attendance exceeding 400 people, has worked as the HIV Senior Specialist at a large homeless support agency in San Francisco, and volunteers as a supervisor with the San Francisco Sex Information Hotline.
Maggie offers solid information and a dynamic charisma that connects with audience members.
Her classes and workshops include:
*Sex Toys For Tightwads
One person’s trash is another person’s titillation. Learn how to bring what you’ve stored away in your attic down into your dungeon basement. Increase your toy collection without breaking the bank at this fun, hands-on class where everyone walks away with a brand new equipment of their very own.
*How to be a Sex Worker Ally
You’re not a sex worker, but someone you care about or respect is. Maybe you’re worried about laws on the books that prevent adults from consenting to sex under their own terms and want to support the struggle for sexual freedom and sex worker/client rights. Learn more about what YOU can do to reduce the stigma and violence directed at sex workers of all stripes.
* The Science of Orgasms
For many people, sex or masturbation is like a seance held to invoke the mysterious orgasm. Although many workshops focus on specific sexual techniques than can help make orgasms happen, this class is all about the in’s and out’s of the human orgasmic process. This class is for orgasm geeks who want to know more about the XXX biology, physics, and chemistry their high school teacher wouldn’t dare to say out loud. This class will teach you everything about orgasms you ever wanted to know, but were too busy coming to ask. Special note: this class can utilize the PSIgasm to give show participants what’s happening inside the human body during a live orgasm. The PSIgasm measures the pounds per square inch exerted by the muscles of the pelvic floor and relays the data onto a real-time graph. See an orgasm like never before.
* Beyond condoms and dams: When traditional barrier methods don’t meet you needs
We all know that masturbation and perfectly performed abstinence is the best way to protect ourselves from sexually transmitted infections and most of us know that 100% consistent use of condoms and dental dams are the next best way to protect our sexual health. Sometimes they don’t work out in our lives. Whether you just want some new techniques to keep in your safer sex tool box or you want to know what your options are when condoms aren’t, this is a workshop for all people who care about their health and bodies. This class can include a live demo of the Reality/Female condom.
* Anti-depressants, birth control, and cocaine, OH MY!: Sexual Side Effects of Drugs
Anything that creates a change in our bodies or minds can and will have a side effect on our sexuality. Some of these changes are deliberate, some are not. Some are direct, others are subtle. Learn more about how many frequently used drugs ranging from those prescribed by your doctor to those procured from more creative means make changes in our sex lives and how to discuss those changes with your medical doctor.
* Not exactly Poly…
Non-monogamy for people who do not identify with polyamory. Every single relationship is uniquely structured, ideally, to meet the needs of its participants. This class focus on negotiating non-monogamy for relationships in which one or more partners is an adult industry professional. Learn how to mitigate potential STI exposure, negotiate boundaries, and manage sex worker burnout in the bedroom.
* Coming Out
For sexual minorities, coming out isn’t something you do just once. Many of us find ourselves coming out as queer, kinky, or as sex workers all throughout our lives to family members, friends, colleagues, and partners. This workshop is about finding the best way to love yourself and share your truth with others.
* Safe/ward
Safe/ward is about addressing consent in alternative communities. Maggie Mayhem and Kitty Stryker have been working hard to address “entitlement culture” and to promote “consent culture.” Consent is sexy, negotiation is hot, and YES matters just as much as NO.
* Impact Play
Just because you don’t have an arsenal of tools doesn’t mean you can’t get kinky in the bedroom! Learn the basics of “kinky anatomy” and find out where it “hurts so good” to play and the spots you should avoid. Spanking, biting, slapping, and smacking are all included and all you need to bring is yourself.
* HIV/AIDS Across The Globe
As an HIV prevention expert, Maggie has put in many years working to reduce the global epidemic of HIV and AIDS. Right now only a third of all HIV+ people across the globe have access to life saving antiretroviral therapies and foreign policy has made it difficult to address the size and scope of this problem. Learn about what YOU can do to fight this epidemic at home and across the globe.
* Women’s Empowerment In Developing Nations
Feminism means many things to many people all over the world. The feminism of 1st world women of privilege cannot adequately address the needs of women in developing nations and even the best intentions can lead to problems. How can you support women’s empowerment across the globe? Find out in this workshop developed with input from UKUN in Bagamoyo and their initiatives to create financial autonomy for women.
